TOGETHER WHILE SEPARATE: A GLOBAL INVITATION to PARTICIPATE

Livestream Link: https://www.facebook.com/adrienneteicher/videos/628596367985382/

HYENAZ invite you to participate in a very special online gathering on the 27th of March, 2020 beginning at 17:32 Central European Time (preparation) and 18:32 CET (ritual).

Critical Magic is a dance event, a ritual, and a gathering. It is based in consent, touch, sound, and movement to break physical and mental isolation and to spark discourse that is both critical and utopian. It is offered and guided by HYENAZ but fuelled by the energy of all of its participants as we synchronously offer intentions related to the current global pandemic.

All members of your affinity group are welcome to join including children. As well of course your animal friends and plants.

ESSENTIALS
Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/698878360648870/

To take part, visit the Facebook event at 17:32 Central European Time. There you will find a link to a Facebook Live stream of the performance, and a Zoom meeting where you can interact with other people joining the ritual. We will guide you in preparations for the ritual beginning at 17:32 CET. The ritual will begin at 18:32 Central European Time.

BACKGROUND
The music and texts for Critical Magic emerged from the site specific performance “Spectral Rite” performed at Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul (2014); in collaboration with the artists Sylbee Kim and Nico Pelzer.

Although Critical Magic has been offered in its entirety 28 times between 2016 and 2018, we return to the ritual for the first time as a live-streamed web-based interaction. Our goal is to offer together our intentions that relate to change we would like to see amidst the current SARS CoV-2 pandemic.

Now that we can no longer be together in a room, we are faced with the challenge of forming new networks of digital intimacies and other energetic forms of social solidarity. We have just begun to understand the possibilities and limitations offered in this space we are calling “quarantine”. The 29th on-line iteration of Critical Magic is just one offering among many; we offer it with openness to whatever will come out of it as a process.

LOGISTICS
The event will take place across two mediums and will include two parts. The first part will guide you through the preparation for the ritual and the second part will be the ritual itself. You do not need to join for the preparation in order to participate in the ritual. You are free to come late and leave early. However we encourage you to take part for the entire time in order to experience the full energetic intervention.

The musical elements will be broadcast through Facebook Live.
At the same time, a Zoom Meeting will allow participants to see and potentially interact with each other. The links to the events will be posted one hour before the event begins.

We recommend that you use headphones or a good stereo to immerse yourself in the soundscape presented through Facebook Live. You can also join via Zoom in order to experience some of the other people who will be present with us.

PREPARATION (17:32 Central European Time)
We will guide you through the pre-ritual preparations such as dressing, making and gathering the tools you will need for the ritual, and choosing an intention which you will later shout out during the ritual.

RITUAL (18:32 Central European Time)
If you choose to only join for the ritual, please formulate your intention ahead of time. It can be anything as long as it relates in some way to the SARS CoV-2 pandemic or its aftermath. You might consider dressing in special clothing and makeup as this can elevate your own sense of framing the ceremony as a special event.
